Hello Noel.. I have canoed your area years ago but never rafted. Is the water level good for this weekend? And is there any evening activites going on about town this weekend also? Thanks, from what I remeber your neck of the woods is beautiful!

Admin reply: Water level right now is about average for mid-August, meaning you'll scrape bottom in places and may have to portage a bit here and there. If you are renting a canoe or raft from one of our local outfitters, they'll be able to advise you about water conditions when you arrive. If a float on any particular part of one of the rivers/creeks is too troublesome, they'll recommend other floats you can take on deeper parts of the Elk River.
I don't know of any special events going on in Noel, but have fun this weekend anyway!

I have been going down to Noel for several years (and my in-laws for many, many years) however, this past weekend we had a confrontation with a man (clearly drunk) who provoked my family to the point where I had to remote my 6 and 8 year old cousins from the area as it escladed quickly. Fortunately, nothing but talk between the two parties insued. I was wondering if you could direct me to a site for who handles the water safety patrol and a site for campground information. Thank you.

Admin reply: Sorry you had a bad experience. Drunks just aren't as cute as they think they are. Glad to hear that nothing violent became of it all though (which is typical of drunks on the river - all blow and no show).
The McDonald County Sheriff handles river patrols, and they are usually on the river on weekends. But of course, they can't be everywhere at once (nor would we wish them to be). You could contact them about your incident, but I can't imagine what they could do about it, since they weren't actually on the scene.
Anyone concerned about their safety on the river might consider bringing a cellphone along in a good drybox. In an emergency, you can call 911 and give your approx. position (if you know it, and such incidents tend to happen near campgrounds anyway) and they'll dispatch officers to your location.
However, just as in all situations in life, you can't expect police protection everywhere you go. Be prepared to protect yourself and your family.

We will be coming down to the Elk River next weekend. We come down every year but usually earlier in the year.

What is the water level like for next weekend?

Thanks,
guy

Admin reply: Just checked the water level... It's right about normal, should be no problem floating for you this weekend. Have fun!

Our family visited Noel this past week and had a great time. Very nice and helpful people everywhere we went in every store we shopped. We arrived Sunday afternoon and stayed through Tuesday. Our two teenage boys, who had never canoed before, had the time of their lives. We will diffiently be back thanks to the wonderful community and a great time.

Admin reply: Glad you had a fun trip. Y'all come on back now, ya hear?

PS.
How's the water level for the 4th?

Admin reply: Water level is still very good, though down slightly from 2 weeks ago when it was "perfect" - still very good for floating though.

I was wondering what is going on in Noel Labor Day weekend 2009. we will probably be stayin at the river ranch resort in the late night loop and wanna know if there will be much of a night life/party atmosphere that weekend? is it usually a busy weekend? cause thats what we are looking for.

Admin reply: The 4th of July weekend is typically the 3rd busiest weekend of the year. I fully expect there will be plenty of parties going on, especially at River Ranch. You should have a good time!

We are coming down the 4th...since no fireworks are allowed...is there a fireworks display we can see locally?

Admin reply: So far I haven't found anyone doing any large organized fireworks displays IN Noel. Check with your campground staff when you get in and they'll probably know of something nearby.

Looking for some close inexpensive lodging in the area!

Admin reply: Assuming you mean hotel lodging, not campground cabins... Arthur Murray Motel in Noel is a nice classic motel right on the river (on west Hwy 90).
If you want a more modern hotel w/pool there are two new hotels further away from Noel. Super 8 in Anderson (jct. of US71 & Hwy 76) and Booneslick Lodge in Jane (US 71 just N. of Arkansas border).

I'm headed down to the Elk River this weekend. Is it very deep right now?

Admin reply: The river is currently at perfect floating condition. I floated on June 16th and it was one of the easiest float trips I've ever taken.
